White Open To A Machida-Shogun Rematch

For those of you who viewed the UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun PPV (yours truly included), then you obviously saw the main event. And truth be told, the judges dropped the ball in reference to the final decision. But be that as it may, UFC president Dana White obviously liked what he saw as he likes the idea of putting together a rematch between both combatants.

As most of you already know, the judges scored the fight 48-47 Machida, which the crowd booed – and rightfully so. White’s take about a rematch?

“I’m ready to make the rematch as fast as we can. People were telling me that Machida was a huge favorite in this fight [it was pointed out that he was a 6-1 favorite]. Those people just didn’t know Shogun yet. Machida has been absolutely dominant in his performances, even before coming into the UFC, so I love this rematch, I think it’s a great rematch.”

Even with the “loss”, Rua’s stock within UFC has risen while Machida’s has dropped. Rua is back, folks. And a rematch has to be put together for a UFC event in 2010. It would be one thing if one of the fighters had actually won this bout without controversy. However, because the fight came to this end result, a rematch is inevitable – even White wants to put one together – so it is not so much if, but when it takes place.

The only thing Rua really hit Machida with BESIDES all the leg (and one body) kick was one punch to the head. People need to realize that the bout was judged professionally and that Machida is champ – therefore he is going to get the go ahead in a match too close to judge.

ur an idiot. if this were a karate or tae kwon do match machida may have won on number of strikes landed. but this is a fight. shogun destroyed machida’s legs and body. if you’ve ever been kicked in the legs you’ll know how much it hurts. i promise you machida will not be able to walk right for at a week

  3. WhiteHawk says:

Your absolutely right mike, but Rua even dominated in the number of strikes thrown and landed. He threw more and landed more. Everybody said Machida was gona perform a clinic on Rua?? LMAO! How do you stop someone from running and evading you??? Take the legs out. How do you wear down someone’s cardio in a fight??? Body shots. Boxers do it all the time. Everyone claimed Machida had poor training and bad cardio for this fight- only because it was beat out of him. He legs were jelly and he was having trouble breathing by the 4th round. Rua’s gameplan worked like a champ against the so called unbeatable and Unhittable karate champ Machida. And truth be told, Machida is barely walking even now and it’s almost been a week since the fight!! Like Dana said, people just didn’t know the real Rua and they believed the hype surrounding Lyoto Machida coming into this fight. After Rua wins the rematch, all those band wagon riders will jump on the Shogun bus.

white and mike chow are absolutely right machida was dominated i think its bs that he got the decision because shogun worked his hardest an i feel bad for the guy they gave it to machida because they wanted a rematch shogun won the fight an its smart of the ufc to do that because theyll make alot more money the next ufc these guys fight in just like they do with brock everyone wants to see him fight an he got a title shot early because of it in my opnion shogun won the fight

I’ve watched that fight a number of times, and it was very even, IMO.

I know others will disagree, but it looked to me that Shogun had the better leg kicks, but Machida was just a hair quicker upstairs, landing a greater number of the faster, harder shots.

It was a real chess match, and as such, it was close. I don’t see how anyone could have been outraged by the decision.

IMO, this illustrates how good Machida. We saw a Shogun who was obviously highly motivated, in great shape, and had a very good fight plan, who looked good from start to finish, but still couldn’t eke out a decision.

Rua is very good, but Machida is extrememly talented and just so intelligent in the octagon.

    Re-match = Shogun loss.
