UFC Releases Werdum

I did not see this coming, but apparently, anything is possible in the world of mixed martial arts; it is being reported today that top ten heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum was released by the UFC after his upset loss to little-known Junior dos Santos at UFC 90 two weeks ago. Had Werdum defeated dos Santos, he had been promised a title shot; but with the loss, he is suddenly out of work.
Although the loss had at least a small part for his release by the UFC, contract negotiations probably had something to do with it, as well; neither Werdum nor the UFC were able to successfully negotiate a contract and the promotion was also looking to reduce Werdum’s pay – which Werdum would have no parts of. Also factor in that he had a paltry 2-2 record with the UFC.
But Werdum is already in contact with other MMA promotions; if he still wants to fight in the States, his best bet would be to sign with Affliction, since they tend to offer contracts that would allow him to fight overseas, in locales such as Japan.
