UFC Interim Heavyweight Title On The Horizon?

Brock Lesnar’s health came to the forefront during the post-fight press conference at UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez.

UFC president Dana White said that he will take about a month to determine if Lesnar will need surgery caused by an intestinal infection that has sidelined the heavyweight; he further stated that if Lesnar isn’t healthy enough to fight any time soon, then an interim title will be created. White added further:

“We’ll know in a month to a month and a half if [Lesnar] is going to need a major surgery. If he needs major surgery, we’ll do an interim title.”

As one would expect, there’s a list of fighters interested in the title, including one Frank Mir. The problem with that is that there are, in my humble opinion, other heavies who are more deserving of a shot at the interim title. Fighters such as Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin automatically come to mind. That’s not to say that Mir wouldn’t merit consideration down the road; however, Mir has lost a fight to Lesnar, so that moves him further down the food chain, so to speak.

Mir shouldn’t be at the top of the food chain cause his recent loss to lesner should put him at least down to #5 at least

if an interim title is needed then the fight is a no brainer. carwin vs. valazquez. but if valazquez loses to noguira then it will be carwin vs. dos santos
