UFC, CBS In Negotiations?

Folks, I know this has been a dormant rumor and a subject of speculation, but there is the possibility, according to Michael Pope of the New York Times, of the UFC taking over for EliteXC as the promotion of record for CBS Saturday Night Fights programming; specifically, the two parties (CBS and the UFC) may be in negotiations to take over EliteXC’s time slot for the network’s Saturday Night Fights series.

Should this come to fruition, it can only be for one main reason: the ratings for the series stink but at the same time, CBS believes in the product enough to continue it – albeit with another MMA promotion.  Anyone who knows anything about business (especially the television side) knows that ratings equal dollars; in other words, the higher the ratings, the higher the revenue.

The UFC is a known money-maker as evidenced by their pay-per-view buyrates and their ratings on Spike TV.  And there has been rumblings about when the UFC would finally do a television deal with a major network – this may be the one that gives the mainstream US television audience the MMA exposure that the UFC has been looking for.
