UFC 86 Scores Knockout At Box Office

UFC 86: Jackson vs. Griffin

It is common knowledge that if you host an event with two marquee names, then your chances of succeeding at the box office are enhanced; the UFC knows that better than anyone.  According to Matthew Brothers of fightline.com, the UFC managed to score its sixth largest gate to date at UFC 86, raking in $3,350,000; 10,900 were in attendance at the event, paying an average $305 per ticket to witness the card.  Of the 10,900 in attendance, 140 were “comped” (meaning they attended the event for free).

In addition a closed-circuit TV feed of UFC 86 was telecast at Mandalay Bay, of which 533 fans paid $63 each – netting an additional $33,650.  The Nevada State Athletic Commission also released the gate figures for the “Ultimate Fighter Finale”, which took place at The Palms in Las Vegas on June 21; that event brought in 1,853 fans for a total live gate of $495,350.
