Although there are those who considered UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin an average fight card at best, as I always say: the numbers do not lie. Having said that, 10,529 attended the event Saturday while grossing a $3 million live gate at the box office. The official numbers will be certified sometime next week by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The attendance figure represented the smallest crowd at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV since 10,173 witnessed UFC 64: Unstoppable in October 2006. No information was released in reference to any comp’d tickets for the event. Assuming that the numbers hold up, the revenue that was generated would represent an average ticket price of $284.93, a drop of a whopping 39.6% from the average ticket price ($471.75) for the most recent UFC event at the venue (UFC 100 in July); that event drew 10,871 and grossed $5.13 million at the gate.
