Tyson Prepping For MMA?

Mike Tyson

As Brandon Vera once said, “Don’t believe the hype, just believe what you see.”  This would certainly be the case as according to Mike Sloan of Sherdog.com, the word out in Las Vegas is that former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson – according to a source – has been discreetly training with a prominent strength and conditioning coach in the Las Vegas vicinity.  The “source” also stated that Tyson isn’t going into the boxing ring anymore; however, when asked if Tyson plans to enter MMA, the said “source” said, “I don’t know, I can’t say.”

Rumors in the past included Tyson hooking up with Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Tito Ortiz.  What’s so strange about all of this is why Tyson would get involved with MMA at this stage of life.  Tyson is 41 years old (too old to enter MMA in my humble opinion) and it would take him a substantial amount of time to get into fight shape – not to mention that he would need to learn at least some of the basic disciplines of fighting in the octagon.  And truth be told, Tyson’s attention span doesn’t warrant him entering into or being successful in MMA.  Sure sounds like something manufactured in order to make Tyson’s name relevant, if anything else.  I just do not see this happening, although I’m sure some minor-league MMA promotion will be intrigued by Tyson for whatever reason.
