Tabera Takes On Hess At Bellator Event

Daniel Tabrera

When Spaniard Daniel Tabera got the call to join Bellator Fighting Championships 4 months ago, he dropped everything and stepped up his training.  With one month to go before his fight at Bellator III in Oklahoma , which takes place today, April 17 and will air nationally on ESPN Deportes, Tabera began adjusting his schedule to Oklahoma time so he would not get jetlagged for the event. With a 7 hour time difference between Spain and U.S. Central Time, Daniel “Maximo el Gladiador” Tabera confessed that this changed his relationship with family and friends.

“At that point I have to separate myself completely from everything else.  It’s like living a different life,” Tabera remarked after weigh-ins on Thursday.  “My dad would ask why I was doing this, but I knew that facing a competitor that I was not familiar with, I have to train with everything.”

Tabera (12-1) will take on undefeated Oklahoma native Jared Hess (6-0) in the first round of the Middleweight championships at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman , Okla.   The winner will bank $25,000 and move onto the semi-finals of the Bellator Fighting Championships for a chance to collect $175,000 in total.  Generally weighing in at 205 lbs., Tabera tipped the scales at 183 lbs. with Hess at 185 lbs.

When asked about his bout with Hess, Tabera remarked, “I don’t know about [Hess’] training, but I trained a lot!”
