St. Pierre-Penn Rematch In The Mix

What has been rumored for quite some time apparently has some teeth to it – the rumor in question being the possibility of a Georges St. PierreB.J. Penn rematch.  According to St. Pierre’s manager Shari Spencer – who was on the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show on Monday – she states that the rematch is in the works, adding,

“That’s my understanding.  I know [UFC President] Dana [White] has been announcing it publicly.  We haven’t officially signed a bout agreement, but everything is pointing toward January 31 in Vegas against B.J. Penn.”

Spencer confirmed the news of the possible 170-pound title bout on the heels of negotiations between St. Pierre’s camp and Zuffa LLC (parent company of the UFC) to retain St. Pierre’s services for the promotion.  According to Spencer,

“We’ve been in long discussions with the UFC for several months.  I am not at liberty to say anything right now.  But there should be some news coming out regarding that very shortly.”
