Silva Fails Drug Test, Is Suspended

After this latest episode, there will need to be some random drug testing somehow implemented in the MMA ranks; according to MMA News, the California State Athletic Commission has suspended EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva for one year and fined $2,500 for testing positive for a banned substance following his win at an EliteXC event July 26.  The drug that Silva was banned for using is Boldenone, an anabolic steroid.

Both of Silva’s samples were sent to two different testing facilities and failed; Silva has the option of appealing the decision to the CSAC.  Oddly enough, the remaining fighters on the EliteXC card on July 26 all came back clean.
