Rua To Fight In 2008?

Mauricio \

Ever since his loss to Forrest Griffin back in September 2007, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has been out of action as he had undergone surgery for his knee shortly after the fight.  According to Gary Herman of FiveOuncesOfPain.com, the surgery didn’t work as planned as UFC president Dana White said that Rua had yet another knee surgery.  It’s kind of difficult to assume what the surgery is for but White gave a glimmer of hope as he added, “I believe Shogun will back this fall.”

Assuming that Rua returns in the fall, the most likely opponent for him would be Soukoudjou; Soukoudjou had challenged Rua shortly after beating Kazuhiro Nakamura at UFC 84.  A fight between the two would make sense in that this would be a fight that could boost Rua up the rankings, while a win by Sokoudjou could put him in line for a possible title shot.
