Riggs Replaces Carter At Strikeforce Event

Joe Riggs

The Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Thomson event, which will take place at the HP Pavilion, will be without one of its fighters due to injury; according to Sherdog.com, UFC veteran Shonie Carter had to withdraw from his scheduled bout with Luke Stewart.  Carter apparently injured his hand while training and was concerned that his injury wouldn’t meet the medical requirements of the California State Athletic Commission.  However, Strikeforce found a replacement opponent in UFC veteran Joe Riggs.  Riggs is currently 2-1 since leaving the UFC in 2006; he has been struggling as of late, losing his last bout due to a back injury.

Unless new developments take place, below is the tentative card for Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Thomson:

  • Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson
  • Bobby Southworth vs. Anthony Ruiz
