Report: Silva To Retire In 2009

Yes folks, the headline above this article is not a typo – Anderson Silva is talking retirement in 2009.  According to Intheguard.tv, Silva, in an interview with Brazilian cable channel SporTV, spoke about his retirement from mixed martial arts, with Silva adding,

“I’ll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don’t need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I’ll put my gloves aside.”

Apparently, the statement is for real as Ana Hissa, editor over at SporTV, was quite serious as she said to Intheguard.tv that the talk about retirement was mentioned several times during the interview.  Should Silva indeed retire, this would send shockwaves throughout the MMA world, especially in the UFC, where there would no doubt be some major changes and movement in the 185-pound division.  You can rest assured that UFC president Dana White will do everything within his power to ensure that Silva remains in the UFC fold as he is pretty much the face of the promotion.
