Penn vs. St. Pierre – It’s Official

It was talked about lots at the UFC 87 show Saturday night and it appears to be a lock; according to Jason Perkins at Fightline, a source close to the situation is stating that a bout between B.J. Penn and Georges St. Pierre is going to likely happen.  Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that UFC president Dana White said,

“I don’t know.  BJ was here tonight all fired up cheering for GSP; they both really want that fight. I’m gonna let that fight happen.”

Perhaps three dominant performances at the lightweight division – including 2 championship wins – persuaded White that Penn is worthy of a move up to the welterweight division; Penn has also said that he would like to move between the lightweight and welterweight divisions, taking on anyone.  But first and foremost, Penn has lobbied for a fight with St. Pierre since losing a decision to St. Pierre back at UFC 58; both fighters have claimed that they’re totally different fighters since that bout.  Octagon Buzz will keep you up-to-date with any developments in the Penn-St. Pierre situation.
