I’m sure you’ve heard the familiar refrain from Tito Ortiz: either he is on the verge of signing with a MMA promotion or is very close to signing; in other words, the ultimate tease. Well there was more of the same from Ortiz as during the broadcast of EliteXC: Heat on CBS Saturday night, reporter Karen Bryant asked him about his chances of joining EliteXC and his reply was,
“We’re working really close with Elite and I’d say we’re about maybe a week away from signing the deal.”
Again, for the sake of repeating myself here, we’ve heard this from Tito before, so take it as a grain of salt – in other words, treat it like a rumor. He pulled this stunt with Affliction as he did a no-show with them. Then there is that possibility, remote as it may be, that he re-signs with the UFC. What I see coming from Ortiz here is that he wants a bidding war for his services; hence the teases about “upcoming deals”. But one thing will delay this – Ortiz recently had back surgery on his lower back, so that will shelve him for 4-6 months, delaying any possible deal in the rear-view mirror.
