Ortiz A No-Show At Affliction News Conference

Everyone wondered where Tito Ortiz was when Affliction held a news conference in Las Vegas to announce the Affliction: Day of Reckoning event, which is set to take place on October 11; according to Loretta Hunt of Sherdog, it was learned that not only would Ortiz not be at the news conference, but also that he had not been signed by the promotion – which is contradictory to what I posted here earlier today about Ortiz’s signing being announced at this same news conference.  Legal counsel for Affliction Entertainment said on Wednesday that Ortiz’ signing was only a rumor and that when he was released by the UFC, the promotion was interested in signing him.

According to Michael Cohen, executive vice president of The Trump Organization, he stated about the “alleged” signing of Ortiz,

“Don Trump Jr., myself and Tito engaged in a conversation.  There is nothing substantive that was discussed other than the fact we are interested in sitting down with him, which we’re planning on doing in the very near future.”

Affliction vice president Tom Atencio would not address Ortiz’s claims to SI.com earlier in the week that the deal would be a “ground-breaking record contract” that included duties outside the ring, as well; Atencio has claimed that he has not spoken to Ortiz yet.  As always, stay tuned to Octagon Buzz as we get the up-to-date developments in this Ortiz episode.
