Octagon Buzz News & Notes

Time once again for this week’s edition of Octagon Buzz News & Notes, a compilation of MMA news for this week; many thanks to Sherdog for the knowledge.  This week has a European twist to it, so let’s get started:

Goran Reljic Drops To 185 Pounds.  Croatian Goran Reljic, who made an impressive UFC debut with a TKO of Wilson Gouveia at UFC 84, has decided to drop to 185 pounds and compete in the middleweight division in the future, depite his current success.  The move seems to flabbergast both fans and MMA experts alike as Reljic looked pretty good as he dominated Gouveia throughout their bout; apparently, he isn’t happy just winning his fights and ending them early.  He seems to want to be a force in the middleweight division – not that there’s anything wrong with that.  In other MMA news…

  • Top Polish MMA promotion KSW has announced the majority of its roster for its KSW “Extra” card on September 13; scheduled participants include: Przemyslaw Zbiciak, Artur Sowinski, Jedrzej Kubski, Maciej Gorski, Krzysztof Kulak, Florian Muller, Antoni Chmielewski, Lukasz Jurkowski, Daniel Dowda and Jan Blachowicz.
  • Undefeated Popek Rak will make his next appearance at FX3 Fight Night 9 in Reading, England; he will take on Dutch kickboxer Sander Duyvis.
  • Heavyweight Piotr Kusmierz  will be involved in the main event of Cage Rage 28 on September 20 at The Troxy in London England; he will face Kimbo Slice‘s last victim, James Thompson.
  • 3-time European champion Karol Bedorf is planning to get into MMA full-time; the heavyweight made his debut in November, getting all the way to the semifinals of the KSW 8 heavyweight tourney before eventually losing to Alexey Oleinik.  Bedorf will compete in a one-night, 8-man open-weight tournament on September 21, which will include Dirk Thielecke, Thorsten Kronz and Lars Weber.  Regardless how he does in the tourney, he is scheduled for a bout in a local event in Poland in mid-October.
  • Swedish MMA promotion Superior Challenge has moved their next event to October 25; promoter Manos Terzitane is looking to make this a “super-card”, hoping to have as many as 16 bouts on the card.  Sami Aziz and Emanuel Fernandez are scheduled to participate.
