Octagon Buzz MMA News And Notes

A busy week thus far in the world of MMA – with a Canadian flavor to it – and lots to cover, so let’s get to it, shall we?  Thanks to our friends at Sherdog for the knowledge.  We’ll start with some Denis Kang news:

  • Middleweight Denis Kang has plenty of reasons to redeem himself; he has lost his last two bouts – one to Yoshihiro Akiyama at K-1 Heros last October and by Gegard Mousasi at the DREAM 2 Middleweight Grand Prix in April.  However, he looks to hopefully reverse that streak as he defends his middleweight title against Jae Young Kim this weekend at a Spirit MC event in South Korea.  This bout being the last of his current contract with the promotion, Kang says that he is on the verge of signing a new one to two-year contract with Spirit MC.  After his bout in South Korea this weekend, Kang is due to fight Marvin Eastman at Raw Combat on October 25 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
  • Lightweight Sam Stout has been added to the UFC 89 card, scheduled to take place on October 18 in Birmingham, England; Stout is also partnering with Chris Horodecki as they are set to open the Adrenaline Training Center in London, Ontario, Canada in September.
  • TKO 35 will be action-packed as the event will take place on October 3 at the Bell Centre in Montreal; the following fighters are tentatively scheduled to be on the card: Hatsu Hioki, Thierry Quenneville, Mark Hominick, Tommy Lee, Adrian Wooley, Noah Thomas, Steve Bosse, T.J. Grant, Brian Gassaway, Sean Pierson and Tim Wadsworth
  • King Of The Cage Canada heavyweight champion Tim Hague will defend his title as he faces UFC veteran Sherman Pendergarst at the Northlands Agricom in Edmonton on September 18; the card will also feature Victor Valimaki, Luke Harris and Dan Shenk.
  • Recent Maximum Fighting Championship signee David Heath will face Emanuel Newton at MFC 18: Famous on September 18 at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta; the bout will more than likely determine who will challenge current MFC light heavyweight Roger Hollett.
  • Speaking of MFC, they have signed a slew of talent for their promotion, including: Simon Marini, LaVerne Clark, Josh Russell and the aforementioned David Heath and Roger Hollett.  Russell will make his welterweight debut at MFC 18: Famous against Mike Gates then will drop to the lightweight class.
