More MMA Programming On Versus?

Versus Network

While the Versus network has already offered the public boxing, kickboxing (Chuck Norris’ World Combat League) and mixed martial arts coverage, they are looking to add even more to their programming schedule, according to Sam Caplan of FiveOuncesOfPain.com.  For those of you who watch Versus, then you’ve probably caught at least an episode of “TapouT“, the MMA-based reality show.  What Versus has in mind is intriguing, programming-wise.

Versus is set to debut “The Contender Muay Thai”; the series will debut on July 31 at 10:00 PM (ET) and will consist of 14 one-hour episodes and a 2-hour finale – not much different than “TUF”.  Muay Thai, while the national sport of Thailand, is slowly catching on here in the US and other locales; it is perhaps the reality-show concept that will bring the combat form to a more mainstream audience.  As it were, a lot of fighters in the UFC and other MMA organizations employ Muay Thai in their fighting style, so it isn’t exactly a brand new thing going here.  But as I’ve said on more than one occasion, competition – whether it is in MMA or anything aspect of business and life – is healthy because it inspires corporations and individuals to bring their “A-game” to the table.  And Versus, if they can manage to do some programming on the level of “TUF” and do it at or below-budget, they may be in good shape.
