Because of an injury to his opponent, Thiago Silva, Lyoto Machida, according to the UFC’s website, has been removed off the UFC 89 fight card, which is set to take place on October 18 and will be televised on Spike TV. Because of this development, it is expected that Machida will fight at another UFC event in the near future.
Replacing the cancelled Silva-Machida bout will be a fight involving Shane Carwin and Neil Wain; UFC 89 will take place at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England. Below is the tentative fight card for UFC 89:
- Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben
- Keith Jardine vs. Brandon Vera
- Luiz Cane vs. Rameau Thierry Soukoudjou
- Paul Kelly vs. Marcus Davis
- Paul Taylor vs. Chris Lytle
- Neil Wain vs. Shane Carwin
- Akihiro Gono vs. Dan Hardy
- Jess Liaudin vs. David Bielkheden
- Sam Stout vs. Terry Etim
