Remember during UFC 97 after Chuck Liddell’s loss to Mauricio Rua when UFC president Dana White announced that Liddell had fought his last fight? In case you missed it, here’s what Dana said:
“We have definitely seen the last of Chuck Liddell. That was his last fight. Obviously Chuck Liddell is a great competitor, he loves the sport, he loves to fight so this has been a very tough decision for him. He was very confident he was going to win that Shogun fight. But Chuck is one of my best friends, I consider him a member of my family, I love him and I don’t want to see him fight anymore.”
That statement in and of itself proves that matchmaking within the UFC can take some unusual turns as during the The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale, White said that Liddell and Tito Ortiz will be coaches for next season’s installment of TUF and will get into the Octagon for the third time against each other. Stay tuned to Octagon Buzz for more developments as they become available.
