The “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung-Jung is nearing a return to the octagon, and has a title belt on his mind.
Last seen at UFC on Fuel 3 when he defeated Dustin Poirier in many observers pick for Fight of the Year in 2012, Jung is eyeing a mid-year return to his fighting career.
Jung’s manager, Brian Rhee, said Monday that Jung is right on track, and that he plans to be ready to resume his fight career sometime around May or June.
“Originally we were shooting for March as an ideal time to fight, but realistically, it’s going to be more like May/June-ish,” he said. “His rehab is going OK, but not as quickly as we were hoping. But he’s on track to make a May/June return to the octagon.”
In the grand scheme of things however, that date in May/June may actually work out better for Jung. And that is because the Featherweight title is up for grabs at UFC 156 on February 2nd when Jose Aldo defends his belt against Frankie Edgar, which gives the winner approximately 4 months to prepare for a potential title defense vs. Jung.
