Kampmann To Move Down In Weight?

Typically if you’re an “under-sized” fighter in a weight class, regardless of the MMA promotion, if you’re not realizing any success, the first thing you consider is perhaps moving down in weight.  According to fightline.com, middleweight Martin Kampmann is considering such a move – specifically to the welterweight division.

Kampmann’s lack of size was evident in his loss to Nate Marquardt at UFC 88; he was at one time a upper-level contender in the middleweight division and if he had defeated Marquardt, he could have had a shot against Anderson Silva.  But unfortunately for Kampmann, the size issue may be the straw that broke the camel’s back.  But then again, should he decide to move down to welterweight, the road to the title bout is not any easier; you have a stacked division with names such as Georges St. Pierre, Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves and many others populating the division.
