Joachim Hansen Hates The UFC

Other than MMA fighters who used to fight in the UFC and have bad things to say about the promotion, it is very uncommon for a MMA fighter who has never fought for the promotion to speak badly about them.  But that is the case, according to intheguard.tv as lightweight Joachim Hansen spoke to them in a brief interview.  A case in point about what Hansen thinks about the UFC; here’s an example:

“I would fight anyone of the UFC light weights, but the problem is that I will never put my foot in the octagon after they (the UFC) tried to be funny, I would rather have bleeding hemroids than fight for the UFC.”

And despite the fact that the UFC has revolutionized the sport of MMA and is the undisputed MMA promotion worldwide, Hansen begs to differ:

“The Japanese MMA audience is the best in the world.  They make magic!  I would rather have one true Japanese MMA supporter than one million fake mainstream supporters that will turn their back on you as soon as you lose a fight.”

Personally, I do not think that Hansen gets it.  It is all well and good that the Japanese audience is knowledgeable and enthusiastic, but if the promotion that he fights for over in Japan folds their tent, he would need to fight elsewhere.  Also, notice that Hansen doesn’t go into specifics when he states that the UFC was “trying to be funny”.  I do not want to suggest that Hansen has a hidden agenda, but he seems to be ranting than basing his words with fact – save for the quote about the Japanese MMA audience.  Last time I checked, I do not remember Hansen ever being in negotiations with the UFC for a contract, so his statements about them seem odd.  But should the promotion that he is fighting for in Japan cease to exist, I wouldn’t be surprised if he contacts the UFC or another USA-based MMA promotion.  If Dana White has read this, then maybe all bets are off.
