Jackson’s Trainer: We Was Robbed

Juanito Ibarra

In the aftermath of the Quinton Jackson loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86 last Saturday, Jackson’s trainer, Juanito Ibarra– according to Joe Hall of Sherdog.com – plans to protest the fight decision to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.  Ibarra added, “We got robbed.  We won the majority of the fight.”  While it is highly unlikely that the NSAC will not overturn the decision, Ibarra is looking ahead to a possible rematch between Jackson and Griffin.  According to Ibarra, “I got it. I got it. I’m not waiting. Next fight.  I asked for it, immediately, in the cage, and Forrest agreed.  The rematch is going to go like I first thought.  Forrest is going to try to do more, and next time he’s gonna get beat.”

Ibarra apparently doesn’t quite understand that matches aren’t made immediately in the octagon after a big fight; there’s other factors that come into play before any match is signed.  But on Sunday, I wrote about who Griffin’s next fight should be up against – and it is not against who you may think.  Also – although it isn’t going to happen – Ibarra said that if Jackson lost, he would resign.  I am just wondering why he would say something like that knowing he had no intentions of doing so?  I understand it is a hype thing or whatever, but some trainers should measure their words before they speak.
