Hughes, Serra To Hook Up Early 2009?

Matt Hughes and Matt Serra have a history, of sorts; both were coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 6 and were scheduled to fight in December 2007, but due to injury, Serra had to bow out.  Hughes would go on to lose to Georges St. Pierre for a second time.  But the rumor out there right now, according to PWB’s Official Podcast Hotline – where Matt Hughes was a guest, is that Hughes and Serra could possibly have a fight down the road.  Hughes had this to say:

“Right now, I’ve talked to Joe Silva quite a few times, and we’re looking at maybe January. He has told me it’s going to be Matt Serra, so I’m looking at January or February. That’ll give my knee plenty of time to heal, if it’s natural. If I have to go under the knife, I don’t know what my timeframe will be…”

Don’t automatically assume that the fight is a lock, because it really isn’t; knee problems have been dogging Hughes, but that at least shows there is the possibility of the two of them meeting in the octagon sometime in the short-term future.
