Hughes’ Knee Injured, Surgery Needed?

Matt Hughes

Poor Matt Hughes – he cannot seem to catch a break as of late; according to Ken Pishna of MMAWeekly.com, Hughes didn’t only lose his bout with Thiago Alves at UFC 85 in London, England, but he also discovered that he suffered a severe knee injury.  The injury in question was serious – specifically, Hughes suffered a torn MCL and a partially torn PCL; according to Hughes on his blog, he stated that surgery will be held off for the meantime while seeking a second opinion.

Even after the fight with Alves – despite the obvious pain Hughes was going through – he said that he had at least had one more fight in him, adding, “I’ll tell you this for sure, I’ve got one more fight left in me.  Matt Serra needs to come up with a game plan now.  My wife wants it.  I want it.  And I know these fans want it, too.”  I will assume that Hughes realizes that with the severity of his knee injury, that bout will have to be put on hold for the foreseeable future; as of yet, no word  has been said as to whether Hughes will – if ever – meet in the octagon in the future.
