Henderson To Sign With Strikeforce?

One would think that with Dan Henderson convincingly knocking out Michael Bisping on July 11 at UFC 100, he would get what he is actually worth. As of right now, it is speculation, but there is the possibility that Henderson may jump to the Strikeforce organization.

The problem here seems to stem to negotiations that Henderson and UFC Dana White are currently involved. Henderson has a dollar amount that he thinks he’s worth while White has submitted a number in kind – presumably lower than Henderson’s offer.

I would like to think that White would give Henderson a multi-fight deal, just based on the Bisping fight end result alone. And obviously I am not privy to the inside skinny on those negotiations; however, my guess is that White is looking at Henderson’s age (39) as a factor more than anything else.

But unlike over-the-hill types such as Mark Coleman and Tito Ortiz, Henderson hasn’t lost all that much, skills-wise. So I think that a multi-fight deal should be hammered out as quickly as possible; I am not convinced that Strikeforce has the financial resources to meet Henderson’s contract demands.

Henderson, depending on what numbers he is throwing out there, needs to do what’s in his best interests, not necessarily the MMA organization that eventually signs him on the dotted line. Time in the MMA world isn’t particualrly kind to aged MMA fighters, so I expect a signing to take place by no later than mid-November.
