Guillard Nabbed On Drug Charges

In yet another black eye to the MMA community, UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard was arrested in Houston for violating probation on a 2007 drug charge, according to Sherdog and verified by a Harris County (TX) deputy; Guillard is currently in custody at the Harris County Jail in Houston, TX, according to the deputy last Thursday and will soon be released to a drug treatment facility once space becomes available per the terms of his recently amended probation – of which no terms were immediately available as of this writing.

Guillard is no stranger to legal scrapes as he was originally arrested on August 3, 2007 for possession of a controlled substance (less than a gram in this instance); under a two-year probation that was finalized on October 10, 2007, Guillard was deferred jail time in lieu of a fine, restitution and/or community service and had to also report regularly to a probation officer.

Prior to this, Guillard was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for 8 months after he tested positive for Benzoylegonine, a metabolite of cocaine, following his loss to Joe Stevenson at UFC Fight Night 9 in April 2007; Guillard admitted to the usage of cocaine 6 days prior to the fight, thinking that the substance would have been out of his system within 72 hours.
