Griffin Out, Sherk In At UFC 108

Sean Sherk will get a golden opportunity as he will replace Tyson Griffin in a lightweight bout against Jim Miller at UFC 108, scheduled to take place on January 2, 2010 in LasVegas; sources close to the matchup have confirmed the bout.
Initially, Sherk was to fight against Rafaello Oliveira in an undercard bout at the event, but due to the injury sustained by Griffin, was elevated to the main card. Speaking of injury, Griffin’s manager, Tom Call, stated that the 25-year old lightweight sustained the injury during training on Thursday; following a visit to a doctor, Griffin opted to pull out of the bout. Call wouldn’t specify the nature or severity of the injury.
Sherk is looking to reverse his fortunes after dropping two of his last 3 bouts; his most recent fight was a unanimous decision loss to Frankie Edgar back in May at UFC 98 and was unsuccessful in winning back his lightweight title from B.J. Penn at UFC 84 in May 2008. Meanwhile, Miller, who has won four of his 5 UFC bouts, earned a TKO victory over Steve Lopez at UFC 103 last September.
