I suppose it was a matter of time, but the UFC has another Gracie in the fold; following the UFC 107 pre-event press conference Thursday, UFC president Dana White announced that a Matt Hughes-Renzo Gracie matchup was likely in the near future. This was followed by a confirmation by Gracie’s management group (Dominance MMA) that Gracie signed a multi-fight contract with the UFC.
Shortly after that announcement, Hughes confirmed that he is to meet Gracie on April 10 at the UFC’s debut event in Abu Dhabi. Bear in mind that the event isn’t etched in stone; however, White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta have met with officials there to discuss having a show.
Hughes hasn’t fought since his decision victory over Matt Serra at UFC 98 back in July, while Gracie enters the UFC with a 3-fight win streak, although he hasn’t fought since his DQ win over Frank Shamrock at EliteXC: Destiny back in February 2007.
