One of the better lightweight fighters around has been signed by the UFC.

Takanori Gomi, according to MMAFighting.com, on Friday was signed by the promotion to a multi-fight contract. Gomi had made mention that he wanted to sign with either Strikeforce or the UFC in 2010 and had spent some time in training at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, CA.

The former PRIDE lightweight champion had recently gotten his career on track after suffering two consecutive losses in the Sengoku promotion. He followed up his victory over Takahashi Nakakura at a Shooto event in May 2009 with a decision over over Tony Hervey at Vale Tudo Japan 2009 in October.
