It’s kind of funny how the weight classes within a MMA organization can change due to a hot streak of one fighter. Yet that is what appears to be what’s happening as because of Jose Aldo’s 6-0 run in the WEC, his teammate from Nova Uniao, Waggney Fabiano, will drop to the 135-pound weight class for his next fight; the date for Fabiano’s debut in the bantamweight division has not been determined as of yet.
And to think that it was Aldo who was going to drop in weight; well folks, there was a change of plans due toi Aldo’s 6-fight win streak, capped by his dominating win over Mike Brown at WEC 44. As Fabiano told Tatame.com:
“About my next fight, I might do at bantamweight division; we’ll see. Junior’ (Jose Aldo) will fight for the belt. He’s making some noise now, so they can’t promote two guys that won’t face each other. … I think it’s better to go down because I think Junior will win. That kid is a phenomenon.”
Fabiano’s most recent bout was a surprising loss to WEC newbie Mackens Semerzier; prior to that loss, he had ridden an eight-fight win streak and had been considered a Top-5 featherweight.
