Emelianenko Signs Extension With Affliction

It appears that Affliction will be able to hold onto their heavyweight champion for a little while longer as according to MMANews.com, Affliction vice president Tom Atencio has announced that the promotion has extended their current contract with WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko and will look to have Emelianenko defend his title in either January or February 2009 when Affliction holds their third event.

Atencio added that the New Year’s Eve fight in Japan for Emelianenko is not etched in stone just yet and it would be a very quick turnaround time between a bout on New Year’s Eve and Affliction’s third show (January or February).  This should bear watching for now because while Atencio would love to have Emelianenko in the States for Affliction’s event in early 2009, Fedor’s very loyal to the Japanese MMA fans as this is the country where Emelianenko got his start in MMA and he is exceptionally popular over there.  So what transpires in the next few months should be interesting to say the very least.  Stay locked into Octagon Buzz for any additional Emelianenko developments along with up-to-date MMA news.
