EliteXC Interested In Ortiz

Tito Ortiz

Soon after Tito Ortiz and UFC parted ways, already there is interest in his services; according to Brian Knapp of The Fight Network, EliteXC has expressed an interest in signing Ortiz; as those of you who are fans of Ortiz or follow his career already know, Ortiz just completed his contract with UFC back in May, losing in a unanimous decision to Lyoto Machida at UFC 84.  Ortiz and UFC President Dana White have had a public war of words which put a cramp in their relationship – the end result being the end of their business relationship.

According to Jeremy Lappen, head of fight operations for EliteXC, “We’re interested.  We’d love to have Tito Ortiz as part of our organization.  Any organization out there would love to have Tito.”  Another organization has an interest as well – upstart promotion Affliction; that should without a doubt start a bidding war to secure Ortiz.  Lappen further added, “We’re talking.  We’ll see what happens.  The deal has to be good for both sides.  He’d be a great addition to our organization, but there are a lot of people actively pursuing him.”  Ortiz, the most prolific fighter in UFC history, has fought 21 times for the Las Vegas-based organization; winless in his last 3 bouts, he has lost to only 4 fighters – Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Frank Shamrock and Machida – in the past 11 years.
