Don King To Enter MMA Game, HBO Deal To Follow?

I didn’t see this coming in my lifetime, but I suppose anything is possible in the fight game as it looks like Don King, the controversial but very successful boxing promoter is going to enter the MMA business; specifically, King will partner with Ross Mandell in the newly formed upstart RHM Productions.

King is being hired as a senior adviser by the new company, according to sources familiar with the Boca Raton, FL-based organization and confirmed by Kings’ news media advisor, Robert Weneck.  While the complete details of the company’s business were not immediately available, their initial efforts will begin with a reality show/documentary film series in the mold of HBO‘s “24/7”. which will use the program to build up the as-yet-unnamed promotion’s fighters before the debut event.

Broadcast distribution for the reality series and debut event is currently in negotiations; while the sources couldn’t divulge which networks were involved in the bidding process, King’s 30+ year relationship with HBO would possibly provide a unique inroad to the channel’s programming.

The new promotion plans to use multiple weight classes in promoting bouts with both male and female fighters.

Much like sharks smelling blood, if there’s money to be made, Don King will show up eventually. Dana White is a lot of things to a lot of people, but he knows what has killed boxing and has tried to protect the UFC.

If Don King has even a little success, I’m afraid we might see meaningless belts and endless hype.

Mandell is under investigation by the FBI in the US and the authorites in the UK, NO company he has been involved with has made money and his investors have lost $$$ MILLIONS he should be behind bars or in the ring himself with a line up of his previous investors to kick the shit out of him, i am sure many people would sign up and pay for to see that.

It’s not a good news for MMA. That guy is a criminal.

  4. sound like they are trying somthing that is allready being done by the gfl, gflmma.com these guys put on one hell of a show and have a reality show hmm, mabe( king and HBO) should just stick with boxing and let people who love and respect the sport bring it to the next level.. check out GFLMMA.com i think this is what real people want, not a UFC 2 or some half rate hack job by people who have money and just want to make a buck!!

Boxing is one of my favorite sports and favorite fighting styles. I love the art of boxing, but the politics and greed have corrupted it beyond belief. Some fighters will never fight eachother simply because their “managers & promoters” do not get along and can not come to an agreement. If MMA does take anything from the boxing game, I hope it is this: The culture and diversity that boxing brings. Like the whole island of Puerto Rico will support one of their fighter, Mexico is the same way. It has been the history of boxing and I think it would be good to incorporate that into the MMA game. Also, the boxing fan base is not mainly 18-35yr old white males like it is in MMA. It is men/woman/children/old/young/rich/poor of all races. That would be great. But all the politics and greed involved in boxing- which Don King had a big part of, needs to just stay in the boxing game and not MMA.

  11. Feel I need to state that I reckoned it has been a truly remarkable page. I’ve truly always enjoyed Mixed martial arts and it really is so nice to be able to read a fabulous weblog that takes Mixed martial arts so seriously. I have not long ago started out to be able to get in Mma lessons myself and also I’m definitely wanting to achieve at the very least a little bit reasonably competitive with the training. Not even hoping to move in a octagon or a single thing just like that just at this point! Any kind of information about whatever I will need to be making time for in order to do very well. Anyways, do go on with the awesome content for this website as well as your first-rate blogposts.
