Spike TV will once again offer some UFC goodies on Tuesday, December 29 when they televise “Countdown UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva”.

The pre-fight special will feature UFC 108, which will take place on January 2, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV; the main event will feature Rashad Evans taking on Thiago Silva. The road to this special has taken some unusual turns, courtesy of the injury bug. the broadcast will take place at 11:00 PM (Eastern/Pacific), with a replay on December 30 at midnight (Eastern/Pacific).

UFC 108 is the organization’s first show of 2010; because of the holiday season, it takes the place usually reserved for their big year-end show. A show of this stature would typically have the big-name fighters scattered all over the fight card; unfortunately, a rash of injuries have totally renovated the event.

Some examples include a middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort; Silva’s recent elbow surgery prompted a delay, however. Then there was the heavyweight bout between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, but Lesnar’s illness has forced a delay. Also add yet another heavyweight fight between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez; that fight was moved to UFC 110, due to a staph infection that has sidelined Little Nog.

When the smoke cleared, the UFC settled for Evans vs. Silva; Evans ws to originally fight Quinton Jackson, but Jackson’s “retirement” would leave Evans in need of an opponent, hence his bout with Silva. Evans is looking to rebound from a TKO loss to Lyoto Machida during UFC 98 while Silva earned a win over Keith Jardine.

With the changes to the fight card, UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva tentatively looks like this:
