Bowles To Defend Title At WEC 47

It is looking very likely that WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles will make his first defense of his title against Dominick Cruz in March at WEC 47 in Columbus, OH; sources close to the organization have confirmed that Bowles and Cruz have verbally agreed to the bout and that agreements should subsequently follow.

Bowles earned the title by earning an upset win over former champ Miguel Torres at WEC 42 back in August; since that time, he had been nursing a broken hand suffered during that fight. Cruz earned his chance at the belt by easily disposing of Joseph Benavidez at the same event; the win was Cruz’s fourth straight in the WEC and fifth overall, with his lone loss being against Urijah Faber.
