Alistair Overeem Granted License To Fight In UFC 156

On January 8th 2013, Alistair Overeem met with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) in an attempt to obtain a license that would allow him to fight in his scheduled UFC 156 bout against Bigfoot Silva.

This meeting stems from Overeem’s 9-month suspension following his failure of a surprise drug test last year, which tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone. As such, Overeem wasn’t allowed to apply for a license for 9 months after the failed test.

He submitted his applications to the commission on the first available date – December 27, 2012.

Today, he appeared before the committee in order to get licensed for his upcoming fight on February 2nd, which was ultimately approved. This allows his scheduled fight with Silva to occur.
