EliteXC Press Conference Open to Public

Kimbo Slice

For those of you who will happen to be in the Sunrise, FL vicinity and have some time to kill, might I suggest you attend the press conference put on by EliteXC for their televised Saturday “EliteXC: Heat” event; the press conference will take place on Wednesday at the Chairman’s Club at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL at 2:00 PM EST.

Scheduled to appear at the press conference are: Kimbo Slice, Ken Shamrock, Jake Shields, Paul Daley, Andrei Arlovski, Roy Nelson, Gina Carano and many others.  The press conference, besides being the place to hype the Saturday event, will also serve as an opportunity for the media to ask questions and get one-on-one interviews; expect photo opps, as well.

Dublin Next Venue For UFC 93?

The UFC, as most everyone who is knowledgeable about the promotion already knows, is doing plenty of international expansion; the Philippines are already in their crosshairs and it appears that Ireland will be a stop as well as the UFC is very close to announcing that Dublin, Ireland instead of Las Vegas, NV will be the home of UFC 93.  Should the event take place in Dublin, the venue will more than likely take place at the O2 Arena on January 17.

Lots of rumored bouts have been mentioned for UFC 93, including the possibility of Rich Franklin taking on either Mauricio Rua or Chuck Liddell and possibly Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva; one more bout being tossed about recently is a Dan Henderson vs. Rich Franklin fight.  When there’s more transparency to the workings of UFC 93, Octagon Buzz will bring it to you, along with the most up-to-date MMA news.

Lotsa EliteXC “Heat” Hype

Watch Gina Carano is fighting Kelly Kobald, and wants to fight the Cyborg, and likes tough guys! on RawVegas.tv

A double-dose of Gina Carano (I loves me some Gina – hell, who doesn’t?), Kimbo Slice and even Ken Shamrock; all of the above are hyping their upcoming fights, scheduled for this Saturday as part of EliteXC’s “Heat” event on CBS. Oh, a couple predictions too.

Frankin vs. Henderson At UFC 93?

It is like most bouts that are rumored prior to any fight card, but the hot rumor floating around these days is a proposed bout between Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson, according to MMAjunkie.com; should the fight take place, it would happen at a UFC event tentatively scheduled for January 17, 2009 at The O2 in Dublin, Ireland.  Sources close to both fighters have said that the fight has been discussed, although no agreements have beem distributed to either fighter as of this writing.

Lutter Not Returning To UFC

It had been reported that former UFC fighter Travis Lutter was unsure as to when or who he would be fighting for; Lutter was susequently released by the UFC following his loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 83.  Then there was a rumor that Lutter would return to the octagon to face Joe Doerksen at UFC 92; well folks, that isn’t happening either.  According to MMArated.com, Lutter claimed that a match in the UFC wasn’t in the cards, adding,

“That was never true. I’m hoping to make it back to the UFC at some point, but right now I’m not under contract with the UFC. I talked to (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva when the rumors came out and he knew nothing about it. I don’t know how these things get started.”

The former The Ultimate Fighter 4 middleweight winner is hoping for a return to the UFC in some shape or fashion sometime in 2009, but in the meantime, will probably have a couple fights outside the UFC to keep his game on and get noticed again.

Okami vs. Lister Added To UFC 92

Another middleweight fight has been added to the UFC 92 card as according to MMAWeekly.com, Yushin Okami and Dean Lister are scheduled to lock up in the octagon; this has been confirmed by Lister’s management firm, Haymaker’s Empire

Lister had originally been scheduled to fight at UFC Fight Night 15 against Thales Leites last week, but a knee injury prompted his departure from that event.  Lister had most recently fought in June, defeating Jeremy Horn, while Okami is returning from a hand injury.

Edwards-Camoes Bout Close To Being Signed For EliteXC November Event

Even though it isn’t official as of this writing, it appears that Yves Edwards will have an engagement with EliteXC for their November 8 event as he is expected to face Fabricio Camoes in a lightweight bout; Edwards spoke with MMAjunkie.com on Sunday to confirm the bout, adding,

“I’ve agreed on it verbally, and I’m just waiting on the papers, and I should get those after this next weekend.  I’m looking forward to that one, and looking forward to getting back on track.”

Edwards had won three bouts in a row prior to facing K.J. Noons on June 14 in a title bout; as luck would have it, Noons stopped Edwards just 48 seconds into the fight.  On the other hand, Camoes has won his last 6 fights, including Sam Morgan on August 15.  The proposed bout between Edwards and Camoes brings together a fight that could be heavy in BJJ skills on both sides, so one can expect a competitive fight should it take place.

Kimbo Slice On Jimmy Kimmel Show

Kimbo Slice was a guest on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Show on Wednesday, September 24. You guessed it – he was promoting his upcoming EliteXC fight with Ken Shamrock.
